BASI™ International Faculty Lecturer and Physical Therapist
Samantha is one of the owners of The Cypress Center, Physical Therapy and Wellness Center in Pacific Palisades, CA.  As a physical therapist, she specializes in orthopedics, sports therapy, Pilates-based rehabilitation, and functional rehabilitation; has worked with many college and professional athletes including USC volleyball, track and football, the Phoenix suns, Phoenix Coyotes, Phoenix Mercury and Arizona Rattlers. Sam is also a Certified Pilates Instructor, trained through Body Arts and Science International™.  She is a member of the Sports Medicine section of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Pre-convention workshop

Introduction to Pilates Method for Physical Therapist (Exercise Therapy)
To introduce/familiarize Physical Therapists to the BASI philosophy and teach them how to use Pilates as therapeutic exercise with specific patient populations. Upon completion of this course, licensed physical therapists will have the tools to effectively incorporate some Pilates into treatment plans for patients, and will be encouraged and inspired to further their study of Pilates through a BASI CTTC.

The Business of Pilates (Professional Development)
Samantha will share with you some of her secrets of success, learned through both education and her own experience.  Whether you want to open a Pilates studio, incorporate physical therapy into your Pilates program, or simply improve the overall operations of your studio, this seminar will help you. You will be given the tools to help you with business start-up, strategic planning, customer acquisition and retention, financial management, human resources, and successful daily operations.

Therapeutic Exercises for shoulder pathologies- achieving scapular stabilization through Pilates Techniques (Body & Mind/ Exercise Therapy)
Lecture to include: Anatomy & Physiology Review, Key muscles and their actions, Case Studies of actual patients/clients, Common Diagnoses seen and treated with Pilates Therapeutic exercises (Rotator cuff injuries, Labral tears, Postural syndrome, Post-op)

Workshop to include: Pilates exercise protocols for Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced clients/patients.  Demonstration and practice of exercises utilizing Mat and Reformer.

B3-BM5(E)│21 March(Saturday)│ 15:00 – 16:30

Therapeutic Exercises for back pathologies- achieving lumbar stabilization through Pilates Techniques (Body & Mind/ Exercise Therapy)
Lecture to include: Anatomy/Physiology Review, Key muscles and their actions, Discussion of Neutral Spine vs. Neutral Pelvis, Case Studies of actual patients/clients, Common Diagnoses treated with Pilates Therapeutic Exercises (Disc Herniations, Scoliosis, Spondylolisthesis, Arthritis)

Workshop to include: Pilates exercise protocol created and used for 8 years by Samantha. These protocols include exercises for Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced patients/clients. Demonstration and practice of exercises utilizing Mat and Reformer
